For my research, I am looking at marriage and divorce rates through a Christian lens. This is important to me because I am someone who is part of the Christian community. The more I research I did on my topic, the more I learned about it and the more interested I became in it. Not only does divorce affect the couples, but it affects children who may also be involved in the marriage. So, with the information I collect, I hope to encourage couples to stay in their marriage and work out the small, small differences. I want to see the betterment of children across the community, so that they are emotionally well and in turn academically successful, as well.
I do not wish to assume any concrete outcomes for this research question in order to avoid a personal bias when analyzing data. However, I do suspect the influence of secular culture on individuals may have contributed in the individuals taking on a more personal, liberal view on the matters of marriage and divorce. So far I have only my personal observations to come to this prediction. It is for this reason that I wish to gather the view of other personnes on this subject to see if this theory is right or wrong. I will then use this information and compare it to the Social Cognitive Theory, and see if individuals are influenced by social context when responding to a long-learned model. I will seek this information by giving a survey to several individuals between two different age groups, one younger generation to a more older age group, to see how the experiences they go through may or may not match up with each other. Of course, not every individual goes through the same experiences, so I will analyze those who have similar experiences and how that affects their view on marriage and divorce. For example, an individual who may have been divorced once may have a different outlook on the subject than one who has never been divorced. By creating information on this topic that is often discussed very rarely, there will be information out there for this to spread. Even if it does not reach outside of Ridge View High school, it will still be valuable because more people will think about this topic the way they have never thought about it before.
